Can you teach without powerpoint slides? In the teaching certificate course I took at HKU, we were forbidden to teach with slides. No reading off slides, no hiding behind the computer! p.s. Being able to teach without slides certainly comes in handy when the projector of your classroom suddenly stops working...!

Mentoring...
@ Baby Lab, UMass BostonMy projects' success critically relies on having good undergraduate research assistants. I am grateful I get to work with very talented and unique students at both HKU and UMB. During a typical semester I mentor 4-8 undergraduate research assistants. I wish I started keeping a list of students' name earlier but here are the honors' thesis students I co-supervised with my PhD advisor Dr. Vivian Ciaramitaro:
Danielle Briggs (2016-2017) Neuba Silva (2017-2018) |
@ Psychology Dept, UMass BostonIn 2014-2015, I was on the executive committee of Psychology Connection Committee, a graduate students-led organization to provide mentoring services and information to Psychology major undergraduate students at UMass Boston. I organized two events - one on "What is Research?" (2014 Fall) and one on "What is Graduate School?" (2015 Spring). We had huge success at both events - many undergraduate students came and expressed interested in either joining a research lab or pursuing grad school. We want to be helpful to our undergrad community.
